DERMALOGICA & FACE MAPPING

Dermalogica - welcome to your healthiest skin ever!

THE DERMALOGICA DIFFERENCES
The unique approach to skin care pioneered by Dermalogica is based on several important differences between Dermalogica and any other skin care product.

NO MINERAL OIL
Mineral Oil is a petroleum by-product which leaves a greasy film on the skin surface. Dermalogica uses lightweight, natural vegetable oils as alternative emollients.

NO LANOLIN
Lanolin is a wax derivative of sheep wool, and can be allergy-causing and comedogenic.Dermalogica uses aromatic essential oils and silk proteins as moisturizing agents.

NO ARTIFICIAL COLOURS
Artificial colours in products can cause skin irritation and breakouts. Dermalogica does not use artificial colour. The natural ingredients determine the final appearance of any Dermalogica product.

NO ARTIFICIAL FRAGRANCE
Companies add artificial fragrance to products to improve their smell. These can cause allergies and skin sensitivity. Dermalogica allows the herbal extracts and aromatic plant oils in the formula to determine the products unique fragrance.

NO S.D. ALCOHOL
Specially Denatured Alcohols are used in many products to artificially dry the skin surface. This strips natural moisture from the skin and leads to excess dryness. Dermalogica uses naturally astringent herbal extracts and oil-absorbing clays to help treat excess oiliness in problem skins.

NO FORMALDEHYDE
Formaldehyde is a common preservative in many products. It can cause dryness and irritation. Dermalogica preserves its products with alternative preservative systems to ensure the safety of the products throughout their usage.

NON-COMEDOGENIC
Products may contain comedogenic ingredients, which cause breakouts and acne. Dermalogica products are designed to be non-comedogenic, and are suitable for acne-prone skin conditions. This is why they are recommended by dermatologists and used in their medical practices.

CONTAMINATION FREE PACKAGING
Products that are packaged in jars are easily contaminated with bacteria from the hands and environment. Dermalogica packages its products in the most hygenic containers, to avoid contact contamination during use.

What is face mapping?

Face Mapping is a revolutionary approach to skin analysis developed by The International Dermal Institute exclusively for Dermalogica. Using the zones and the Dermalogica Face Map as a guide, the therapist is able to conduct an inch-by-inch, methodical analysis of the facial landscape, guaranteeing that the subsequent professional treatment and home-care prescription will fully address each client's concerns.

Zones 1 & 3
Traditionally, this zone is regarded as the "sister" to the bladder and digestive system. If you breakout frequently in this area, it might mean that you need to improve your elimination by drinking more water and eating more "whole" foods.

Zone 2
The middle of the forehead, between the eyebrows, is related to the liver. Congestion in this zone can indicate over consumption of alcohol, rich foods, and possibly a food allergy (such as lactose intolerance).

Zones 4 & 10
The ears are a highly sensitive area related to the kidneys. If you notice that your ears are very hot, you might be stressing them out - drink plenty of plain water and cut down on caffeine and alcohol.

Zones 5 & 9
The cheeks often give an accurate glimpse into any respiratory distress. Smokers or people suffering from allergies generally experience fine, broken capillaries or congestion in this area.

Zones 6 & 8
The eyes are truly a window to the body's health because they're related to the kidneys. Dark circles , while often hereditary, are made worse by dehydration and poor elimination.

Zone 7
A reddened nose can indicate heightened blood pressure, or the early stages of rosacea. Congestion around the upper lip can occur if you use comedogenic lipsticks or liners.

Zones 11 & 13
If you've had extensive dental surgery done, you might notice a breakout along the jaw line, near the ears.

Zone 12
Breakouts or unusual hair growth can indicate hormonal imbalance, possibly caused by extreme stress. Premenstrual breakouts are also very common on the chin.

Zone 14
Don't forget to include your neck in your treatment regimen - its skin is just as fragile as that on your face, so it definitely needs the benefits of moistuisation and sun protection.
